Intro Music
Stephanie Garber has another book series called Once Upon a Broken Heart. This trilogy is connected to the Caraval trilogy, but follows different characters.
The first book, Once Upon a Broken Heart, starts in the middle of the last book in the Caraval trilogy, Finale. It follows Evangeline fox, who lives with her stepmother and stepsister after the tragic deaths of her parents. Evangeline is heartbroken after discovering the boy she was in love with was marrying her stepsister. She stumbles across a magical door which leads her to the prince of hearts church. The prince of hearts, Jacks, is a fate and your are introduced to him in Caraval trilogy. Evangeline makes a deal with him to stop her stepsisters engagement. Jacks agrees but under one condition, he puts three broken hearts on her wrist and each disapears when she kisses someone of his choosing. When she returns home she discovers that the entire wedding party had been magically turned to stone. Evangeline decides to take their places and she is turned to stone for six weeks. Once she no longer stone she travels to the great north where she meets another prince Apollo. Jacks is determined to make Apollo fall in love with Evangeline despite her wishes. Evangeline tries to uncover the secrets of the castle and tries to discover what Jacks is searching for.

In the second book, The Ballad of Never After, Evangeline is married to Apollo but he was cursed by Jacks. Jacks eventually agrees to drop the curse on Apollo if Evangeline helps him, but there are some complications and they discover Apollo has been cursed several times. Apollo had another curse on him that made him try to kill Evangeline. Evangeline and Jacks go through the magnificent north to try and find several missing stones to unlock a mysterious arch. Evangeline while helping Jacks try to find these stones is also trying to figure out why this archway is so important to him. The archway would allow Jacks to go back in time and hopefully get his one true love to fall in love with him. Jacks is a fate with a tragic curse that anyone he kisses that isn’t his soulmate dies. Jacks had found his soulmate but she didn’t want anything to do with him. Once they fix the archway Evangeline is attacked and almost dies. Jacks who is desperate to save her uses his only wish from the arch to save her but there is a catch, she loses all of her memories.
In the last book in the trilogy, A Curse for True Love, Evangeline is trying to get pieces of her memory back. She lives in the castle with her husband, Apollo, but she continues to follow Jacks even though she is not sure why. Throughout the book she is constantly fighting between believing Apollo’s lies or following her gut and trying to find Jacks. She eventually gets her memories back and wants to stay with Jacks but Apollo tries to keep them apart. In the end Evangeline ends up happily living with Jacks, and Apollo is magically turned into a tree so he can no longer harm others.

Although, Stephanie Garber has said this trilogy is completed, she has been dropping hints on more novella’s based in the world with other side characters. Hopefully someday soon she will announce another novella based on different characters. Personally I would love a novella based on Lala and Chaos who we get introductions to during the Once Upon a Broken Heart trilogy.
